How do I join the SDVA?
Please see the “Membership “ page.
What are the benefits of joining the SDVA?
Members receive the combination to the pedestrian gate so they may enter and use the velodrome any time there are not official velodrome functions. Members also pay discounted rates on Tuesday night racing.
Can non-members use the velodrome?
Non members may ride the velodrome during recreational hours only, and there is a small fee involved. The recreational hours are run by volunteers, and there is no guarantee that the track will be open during recreational hours. If you want to let yourself into the track, you will need to purchase a membership.
Can my bike be ridden at the velodrome?
The velodrome is intended to be primarily ridden on fixed gear bicycles, however freewheel type bikes may be ridden on the track ONLY during recreational hours. Freewheel bikes are not allowed during any other times. If your bike has brakes, it is a freewheel type bicycle.
Does the SDVA rent out track bikes?
The SDVA has bikes that are used only for the developmental classes. We do not rent out track bikes to racers or other track visitors.
How do I go about learning to ride track bikes?
The best way to learn to ride track bikes is to take one of the developmental classes. You may also contact one of the private coaches. The SDVA does not endorse any of these coaches, but provides their contact information as a service to the membership/public.
Can I race at the San Diego Velodrome?
In order to race on Tuesday nights, you must have taken a developmental class or have track experience from another track. Is there a fee to come watch the races? The SDVA does not charge and admission fee for spectators. Watching bike racing is infinitely cheaper than going to a Padres or Chargers game! If I take developmental class, am I an SDVA member?
No, SDVA memberships must be purchased separately from class. May skates or skateboards be ridden in the velodrome? Can I rent the facility for filming or other events? Can my dog come with my to the Velodrome? |
