Racing Categories

(Adults, Masters, and Juniors)

Racers at the San Diego Velodrome are divided into four different categories by primarily experience and skill, and secondarily by fitness. This helps keep racing balanced, safe, and fun for everyone, from beginner to advanced racers. Advanced racers belonging to Category A and B race at TNR, while new racers belonging to Category C and D race at FNR.

TNR and FNR races are not USAC sanctioned events, and do not result in upgrade points for your USAC race license.

New Racers

After becoming Racing Certified by attending our Introductory Class, new racers typically start at development race series FNR as Category D and advance to levels C, B, and finally A, as they gain race experience.

Racers with Experience at Other Velodromes

Racers with prior track racing experience will be assigned a category at Race Director's discretion, please contact racing@sdvelodrome.com prior to racing and include USAC license number and track category (if applicable) and/or location and description of track racing experience.
